Crimea — June 21, 2026
Ukraine launched one of its biggest attacks on Russian-annexed Crimea in recent months overnight, striking the Crimean Bridge, military logistics, oil industry infrastructure and air defense systems — leaving four people dead, 28 wounded, and forcing the suspension of fuel sales across the entire peninsula.
"Last night, our long-range sanctions targeted the occupiers' military logistics, oil industry and air defense," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on social media. "All of this is a just response to Russia's brutal attacks against our people."
Zelensky added that Ukrainian forces also struck the Crimean Bridge connecting the peninsula to Russia, as well as radar and air defense systems.
Russia-backed Crimea Governor Sergey Aksyonov confirmed casualties among the civilian population from the drone attack on the Kerch Peninsula. "According to the latest information, four people were killed, 28 were wounded," he said.
The mass raid also killed one person on a ferry and hit an oil terminal in Russia's southern Krasnodar region bordering Crimea, authorities there said.
"Today, June 21, starting from 09:00 am, fuel sales at Crimean petrol stations have been suspended," Aksyonov said, adding that fuel would only be sold to state enterprises.
Ukraine said it targeted military and energy facilities in Crimea — Moscow's key logistics base for its four-year military offensive — in one of the biggest attacks on the peninsula in recent months. After upgrading its long-range drone capabilities, Kyiv now says it can strike at will along the land corridor through occupied southeastern Ukraine that Russia uses to supply Crimea and its forces stationed there.
Ukraine has now struck Moscow nine consecutive nights — what Zelensky calls his "long-range sanctions," aimed at squeezing Russia's economy. A Moscow refinery burned again earlier this week.
Zelensky said Ukraine's forces struck 15 Russian oil refineries between January and May alone, adding: "Our warriors now have the capability to reach Russian military logistics across virtually the entire depth of the temporarily occupied territory. There are practically no safe roads left for the occupier in the south and east of our state."
DeSanta News will continue to follow developments from Crimea and the broader Ukrainian long-range strike campaign.
